We start our dogs in a controlled environment several times before we actually hunt them. Most hunts are via airboat or side by side. All of our dogs can wear cut collars and cut vests with no problem, all of our dogs vary in their distance of hunting range.

Stages of experience in dogs

Green dog–  Dog that has seen a hog in a controlled environment and has interest.

Started dog–  Dog that has been on and caught less than six hogs in the woods.

Well started dog– Dog that has found its own hog and been on more than six hogs in the woods.

Finished dog– Dog that is seasoned and can find its own hogs. (trash broke)

Performance description

Bay dog– Dog that will find and bay but awaits help from others.

Running catch dog– A dog that will normally stick with the other dogs, or find its own hog, and only catches.

Walk in catch dog– These dogs do not hunt that well as far as ranging out. Normally hangs with owner on a leash until the action starts and is sent in to finish the job.
